Artist Statement

My work explores space, energy and life force through drawing, painting, murals and shamanic objects. Across industrial landscapes, figurative abstraction and animal imagery, I am interested in how inner and outer worlds intersect through mark-making and process. Whatever the medium, I fundamentally see everything I create as drawing. Even the more colourful works are built from restrained palettes that remain close to monochrome in structure and feeling.

The large-scale charcoal and mixed media works are created through layering, erasing, tearing and reconstruction. Observed cityscapes and industrial spaces are transformed into experiential environments that move between figuration and abstraction. Music is central to the process; the rhythm and structure of classical compositions often translate directly into marks and movement within the image. I frequently work while listening to Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Antonio Vivaldi and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Embedded within many works are references to yogic philosophy, including the ‘Yoga Sutras’ of Patanjali, alongside fragments of poetry and mantras in Sanskrit and Gurmukhi, often layered into the surface and partially obscured.

Alongside these works, I create Shamanic paintings, drums and murals centred around animals and transformation. Around seven years ago, I unexpectedly painted a highly realistic leopard onto a shamanic drum in a single session; similar works followed naturally from there. Although visually distinct from the charcoal works, they emerge from the same core impulse: the direct expression of vitality, presence and life force.

Across all mediums, my practice is experiential — an attempt to dissolve the distance between observation, intuition and the act of making.
